Mr. Morris Joseph Meyers, age 92, of Nashville, TN, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
Mr. Meyers was born in Hope Mills, NC on November 30, 1924, the son of the late Morris Joseph Meyers, Sr. and Mary Susan McLeod Meyers. He grew up in Chicago. Mr. Meyers graduated from Calumet High School and attended Illinois Institute of Technology and Armed Services Institute.

Mr. Morris Joseph Meyers, age 92, of Nashville, TN, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
Mr. Meyers was born in Hope Mills, NC on November 30, 1924, the son of the late Morris Joseph Meyers, Sr. and Mary Susan McLeod Meyers. He grew up in Chicago. Mr. Meyers graduated from Calumet High School and attended Illinois Institute of Technology and Armed Services Institute.

Morris served in World War II in Company B of the 147th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army as Staff Sergeant in Weapons Platoon from 1942-1945. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, New Guinea, Emirau, Saipan, Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Tinian, in ground combat. On Tinian, he guarded the airstrip where airplanes, including the Enola Gay, were deployed. Mr. Meyers was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, Expert Infantry Man Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Campaign medals, and three Battle Stars among other awards.

After discharge from the Army, he was employed in insurance, including his agency, M Surance, retiring at the age of 80. During his employment at Hartford in Chicago, he met and married Audrey. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Mr. Meyers found the land to build the church, which he attended for 50 years. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Blue Goose International Association, Lutheran Layman's League, and American Legion.

He is preceded in death by a son, Eric Paul Meyers, Nashville, TN; brothers, William Allred and Caveniss Allred; and sister, Juanita Allred Sorensen, Chicago.

Mr. Meyers is survived by his wife of seventy years, Audrey J. Meyers; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Bell of Murfreesboro, TN and Janis Meyers and Ralph Gunter Short Mountain, TN; Grandchildren, Jacqueline and Scott Childers, Bonnie Bell, and Erik Gunter; Great-Grandchildren, Madison, Milbrey and Mason Childers, Hailee, and Montana Gunter; sister-in-law, Dorothy (John) Adams; and several nieces and nephews survive including Skip and Karen Sorensen, Richard and Sharon Sorensen, Debbie(Sorensen) and Steve Skopec, Caven and Jan Allred, Linda and Rob Rooney, Keith and Tiffany Duck and Families.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 19, 2017, at eleven o'clock, Our Savior Lutheran Church, 5110 Franklin Road, Nashville, TN 37220.Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Cemetery.

Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Friday, May 19, 2017, at nine thirty until eleven o'clock, Our Savior Lutheran Church.
