Lucinda Riddle Rains of Brentwood, Tennessee died May 12, 2017.
Lucinda was a Nashville native born on December 15, 1931 daughter of William Speer Riddle and Helen Lindsley Riddle. She attended Eakin and Palmer elementary schools and high school at Ward Belmont. She graduated Vanderbilt University where she majored in history and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She was a teacher in early adulthood returning to school to earn a postgraduate degree in education from Peabody College. She volunteered time in support of fundraising for local organizations including the Fannie Battle...

Lucinda was a Nashville native born on December 15, 1931 daughter of William Speer Riddle and Helen Lindsley Riddle. She attended Eakin and Palmer elementary schools and high school at Ward Belmont. She graduated Vanderbilt University where she majored in history and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She was a teacher in early adulthood returning to school to earn a postgraduate degree in education from Peabody College. She volunteered time in support of fundraising for local organizations including the Fannie Battle Day Home for Children. Lucinda's family has deep roots in Nashville and early Tennessee including First Families of Tennessee and Colonial Dames. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with her many friends and in recent years was active in the Vanderbilt Bridge Club of Nashville.
Lucinda was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Eugene O'Neil Rains; and by her sister, Helen Dorothy Riddle.
Lucinda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Paul and Martha Dickens of Richmond, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law William and Rhonda Rains of Maynardville, Tennessee; brother William Speer Riddle III of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter Leigha Dickens of Asheville, North Carolina; and several nephews.
Visitation with family will take place at one o'clock on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Road, Brentwood ,TN, followed by celebration of life service at two o'clock in the afternoon, also at the church.
